Built in the 1820s, the Promenade des Anglais is an avenue along the seaside facing the Baie des Anges. It also gives Nice its cosmopolitan and aesthetic identity between sea and palm trees.
Come and enjoy a walk on the Promenade des Anglais, the path that follows the Nice seafront for a few kilometres. Go from one side to the other on foot or by bike on the roads reserved for pedestrians and cyclists.
The history of the Promenade des Anglais dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, when it was still a two-metre-wide dirt path. More and more wealthy English people came to spend their winter holidays there and in the 1930s, they built villas and hotels there, developing the "English-style" promenade, for walking and horseback riding. .
The Promenade des Anglais retains the emblematic character of Nice that it acquired at the beginning of the 20th century without however summarizing in itself the rich heritage and the historical soul of a city twenty-five times a hundred years old.
