Access on foot via the Menica Rondelly, Julles Enaudy and Auguste Kerl climbs, by lift (rue des ponchettes) or by the Lesage staircase (at the end of the Quai des Etats-Unis).
The Hill of the Castle was the site chosen by the Phocaean Greeks to establish their trading post and thus found the city of Nice, a few millennia ago.
However, the hill of the Castle takes its name from the imposing fortification which was built there and which was destroyed by Louis XIV in 1706. The medieval city took place there entirely before the habitat did not extend below, from of the twelfth century.
Protected since the 18th century by a total absence of urban development, the site contains in its basement the vestiges of the medieval and modern city, but also of older periods.
